PAWTUCKET, R.I. (WPRI) -- The tenants of a Pawtucket apartment complex were able to escape a fire safely thanks to the work of an attentive police officer.
The unidentified officer was completing an accident report near the Mineral Spring Avenue building when he noticed smoke coming from a basement window. He then ran to the house and notified the residents inside.
No injuries were reported, and crews were able to extinguish the fire by 1:15 p.m.
Police tell us the cause of the fire does not appear to be arson, but rather electrical in nature. The man whose apartment the fire started in tells us he believes it was started by a heater.
An investigation into the exact cause is ongoing.
