WESTERLY, R.I. (WPRI) – Westerly's Misquamicut community is not in holiday mode this weekend.
Instead, residents and volunteers continue to clean up from Sandy.
The storm hit almost three weeks ago, and though there is still a long way to go, the area is making progress.
More volunteers from across the state were back out on Saturday picking up debris left by the storm.
The Westerly Town Council and The Chamber of Commerce organized an army of 600 volunteers to help along Atlantic Ave.
Bring Back the Beach and Serve Rhode Island are two organizations using the help from volunteers.
Officials say they need to re-build and re-beautify the area because it is economically vital to sustain beach front communities in Westerly.
Clean up volunteers and donations are still needed.
