NEWPORT, R.I. (WPRI)- Massive cleanup begins Saturday in several coastal areas heavily damaged by Hurricane Sandy.

Newport beaches were spared major devastation from Hurricane Sandy with mostly heavy amounts of sand washing ashore at Easton and other beaches.

During the height of the storm and its aftermath several feet of sand covered the major roads blocking all but one lane.

Clean Ocean Access is planning two beach cleanups Saturday morning. One at Easton's Beach and the other at Sachuest in Middletown.

Volunteers are asked to wear sturdy shoes or boots and dress appropriately.

Refreshments and gloves will be provided.
