WESTERLY, R.I. (AP) -- Westerly officials have chosen three companies to clean up damage in the Misquamicut area caused by Superstorm Sandy.

The Westerly Sun reports ( http://bit.ly/ UhFOm O ) that workers from the companies will start removing debris in the shoreline community as soon as possible. Debris removal is set for this coming Wednesday and Nov. 21, but could begin earlier.

The storm scattered debris throughout the popular beach area. Officials estimate that 150,000 cubic yards of sand need to be moved and processed.

Town officials chose J.R. Vinagro of Johnston and two out-of-state companies -- Cherenzia Companies of Stonington, Conn., and Omni Pinnacle of Pearl River, La. -- to remove the debris.

Federal government aid is expected to pay 75 percent of the costs. The town's share could exceed $100,000.
