Coastal areas continue Sandy clean up

WESTERLY, R.I. (WPRI) - The coastal areas of Rhode Island continue cleaning up 3 weeks after Hurricane Sandy hit.

Senator Jack Reed will be in Westerly Tuesday to work with volunteers who continue to clean up the debris in the town's Misquamicut section.

The group is looking to clear Atlantic Ave. and surrounding areas by Wednesday when the town will be completing its debris collection.

Meanwhile, FEMA officials will continue assisting the people affected in Newport and Washington Counties.

The storm surge removed an estimated 20,000 yards of sand on Narragansett Town Beach, battered several buildings and tore up a beach parking lot.

Town officials tell Eyewitness News that repairs will cost hundreds of thousands of dollars, but they are in the process of acquiring the funding.

Officials have announced the beach will re-open in time for summer.
