PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) - Providence College is making contingency plans for the estimated 1,100 students moving in ahead of Hurricane Earl.
Many students began arriving on campus Thursday, one day before Hurricane Earl was expected to brush past the area.
PC Emergency Management Director Koren Kanadanian says the college is prepared in case the storm hits harder than expected.
"We have extra staff, extra security, extra people from the physical plant, generators. I have plans with Sodexo for feeding students, contingency plans in case power goes out. Everyone's in place and I'll be here all night."
If necessary, the college has plans to move students from high-rises to lower levels, and even off-campus all together.
As of Thursday, most freshman orientation events this weekend were scheduled to go on as planned, except the "Building Bridges Program," which will be rescheduled.
