Salve students to help NJ Sandy victims

NEWPORT, R.I. (AP) — Salve Regina University is collecting relief items for residents of New Jersey struggling to recover from Superstorm Sandy .

The Newport university has set up a donation station on campus on Leroy Avenue outside Our Lady of Mercy Chapel. Donations may be dropped off between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. weekdays through Friday.

The items will then go to the College of New Jersey, which will give them to individuals and families in need.

Requested donation items include:

  • New or lightly used warm clothing, especially for children
  • Blankets
  • Batteries
  • Paper plates and cups
  • Bleach
  • Diapers
  • Cleaning supplies
  • Toiletries
