More NSTAR crews headed to mid-Atlantic

BOSTON (WPRI) -- NSTAR is sending utility workers to Long Island to help with power-restoration efforts there.

About 100,000 customers are will without power after Hurricane Sandy and another storm this week slammed New York.  The Long Island Power Authority put out a call for assistance to other utility companies, which NSTAR is answering with about 40 lineworkers and other staff.

The group left Massachusetts early Saturday and will be there for at least two weeks, NSTAR reported in a statement.  NSTAR already has other crews working in New York City and Long Island, and gas technicians are working along the New Jersey Coast.

NSTAR called the deployment part of a "time-honored tradition of utilities helping utilities."
