PC's Kim Smith finishes 15th in Olympic marathon

(WPRI) - Providence College graduate and current Providence resident Kim Smith finished the Olympic marathon in 15th place this morning in London.

Smith, originally from New Zealand and who runs for her native country, finished in a time of 2:26:59.

Ethiopia's Tiki Gelana finished first less than four minutes ahead of Smith with a time of 2:23:07.

Kenya's Priscah Jeptoo won the silver. Russia's Tatyana Petrova Arkhipova won bronze.

Smith graduated from PC in 2005 having won four NCAA individual titles, the most of any Friar in history.

This is her third appearance in the Olympic Games.
