(WPRI) - Elizabeth Beisel swam the preliminaries in her final Olympic event Thursday and qualified for the semi-finals of the 200-meter backstroke with a time of 2:07.82, winning her heat.

The semi-finals take place around 3 p.m. today.

Beisel is already an Olympic silver medalist in the 400-meter individual medley.

Beisel is the second of two American swimmers in the 200 backstroke. The other is Olympic powerhouse Missy Franklin who is the favorite to win gold in the event.

Biesel entered the event with the 7th best qualifying time from the Olympic trials, but swam the second best time of anyone at the Olympics. The top 8 swimmers make the Olympic finals.
