PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) -- A local hockey legend will be honored this week as the AHL All-Star Classic takes place in Providence.
For many years, the Providence Reds supplied local fans with an array of talent, including goalie Harvey Bennett, who recorded 260 regular season wins between the pipes.
Bennett will be inducted into the AHL Hall of Fame on Monday. His two sons talked to Eyewitness Sports Thursday about the legacy of their late father and the impact he had on the community.
"We had so many kids that went to great schools, and hockey helped them get there," said Harvey Bennet, Jr. "It helped change their lives, and we like to think that my father had an integral part of that, helping them with their success."
Bennett played 12 of his 15 seasons for Providence, helping the team win two Calder Cups.
