PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) -- The AHL All-Star Classic took place this weekend at the Dunkin Donuts Center in Providence, and as part of it, a local hockey legend was given a special honor.

It was the first time since 1995 that Providence hosted the all-star weekend, which involved a skills competition and the annual battle between the Eastern Conference All-Stars and the Western Conference All-Stars.

The classic was also a great time to look back at some of the greatest players to lace up skates. Four of those players were inducted into the AHL Hall of Fame on Monday, including the late, great Harvey Bennett, who protected the net for the Providence Reds for 12 seasons.

"While we were growing up playing hockey, we missed out on his journey through hockey," said Bennett's son, Curt. "But what his journey did was he understood the game, especially as a goalie, and he understood the mental part, and he was able to convey that to us."

During his time with the Reds, Bennett amassed 260 wins and two Calder Cup victories for the team.
