INDIANAPOLIS (WPRI) - As the Patriots returned to Foxboro following another heartbreaking Super Bowl loss to the New York Giants, Patriots fans who made the pilgrimage to the big game were headed home from Indianapolis with heavy hearts.
"I'm not feeling to good today," said Erik Wolf or Northbridge, Massachusetts, as he scanned over sale items at the NFL Pro Shop in the Super Bowl village. "This is the second Super Bowl where we go home with a loss against the Giants. So, I'm not feeling too good today."
Another Patriots fan, Charlie Roy, was also still reeling from the stunning last-minute loss.
"A little disappointed," said Roy on Monday. "It was a game they could have won. I mean it was there for them to get it done and they didn't. But it's only a football game."
Many Patriots fans who traveled to Indianapolis were not in the mood to buy too much Super Bowl merchandise Monday, even though it was all marked fifty-percent off.
"We came down and we're hoping to get something discounted. But I don't even feel like paying 40 bucks for a t-shirt today," said Wolf. "If they had won I would have a whole closet full."
Other Pats fans had a more optimistic outlook, like Paul and Joe Werzanski of Massachusetts, who decided to take advantage of the deals and stock up on Patriots merchandise despite the difficult defeat.
"Of course. We gotta go back again someday," said Paul.
"We'll be back next year," agreed Joe. "One more time, do it all over again."
Back home in Foxboro, dozens of Patriots fans greeted the team as their buses arrived at Gillette Stadium Monday afternoon, cheering the players and thanking them for a memorable season.
