PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) - Round 1 of the NCAA Tournament began in Providence Thursday afternoon, and security has been stepped up at the Dunkin' Donuts Center.
Security officials at the Dunkin' Donuts Center said they have been planning for the tournament for over a year, and have coordinated with local, state and federal agencies.
As part of the security measures, the center will be under lockdown until four hours after the last game over the weekend. Forty-five security guards and another 30 admissions personnel will be on hand. Staff members will check every bag and package. Fans will not be allowed to bring in banners, noisemakers, or alcohol.
The first game at the Dunkin' Donuts Center will be Robert Morris vs. Villanova , scheduled to begin at 12:30 p.m. Thursday
