EAST PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) - Here are some fun tournament facts and stats that may help you decide on your picks.  In the history of the NCAA Tournament:

  1. The lowest seed to ever win the national championship is a #9 (Villanova in 1985)
  2. Only four #15 seeds have upset a #2 seed (not since Hampton beat Iowa State in 2001)
  3. A #15 seed has never won a second round game
  4. A #14 seed has only won two times in the second round
  5. A #13 seed has only won four times in the second round
  6. A #12 seed has won 19 times in the second round
  7. Only one #12 seed has ever won in the Sweet 16 (Michigan in 2002)
  8. Only three #11 seeds have made it to the Final Four
  9. The #1, #2, and #3 seeds have accounted for better than 80 percent of all NCAA tournament champions
  10. A #1 seed has still never been upset in the first round. The record of #1 seeds against #16 seeds is 108-0!
