WARWICK, R.I. (WPRI) -- He closed out his All-State career in style, leading Hendricken to the Division I crown. Then the business of baseball came into view for Tom Pannone.

A 33rd round draft pick by the Chicago Cubs, the lefty also had a scholarship offer to play for the University of Miami.

But as the senior negotiated with Chicago, a third choice emerged. The pitcher and centerfielder has chosen to go to the College of Southern Nevada, the junior college that produced Washington Nationals all-star Bryce Harper.

"It's going to be a great school to go to, just like Miami would have been," Pannone told Eyewitness Sports.

Now, Pannone will likely be in a similar situation next year when he must decide again whether to stay in school or head for the pros.

"In another year from now, I'd love to hear my name get called again on draft day," said Pannone.
