SMITHFIELD, R.I. (AP) - Jesse Steele scored 22 points and Monmouth (N.J.) beat Bryant 78-68 on Saturday.
Dion Nesmith and Austin Tillotson each had 11 points for the Hawks (6-17, 4-6 Northeast Conference), who have won three of their last four games. Nesmith also grabbed a team-high six rebounds.
Steele, who went 7 of 17 from the floor, knocked down three 3-pointers for Monmouth — which shot 54.5 percent (30-55) from the field. The Hawks' defense played strong against Bryant, holding them to 38.3 percent shooting (18-47).
Monmouth dominated the Bulldogs in the paint with a 34-18 edge. Bryant was unable to score any fast break points.
Frankie Dobbs scored 23 points and six assists for the Bulldogs (2-20, 1-9), who have lost seven straight and still does not have a win over a league opponent this season. Alex Francis had 19 points but had six turnovers.
