KINGSTON, R.I. (AP) - Darien Brothers scored 19 points and Richmond defeated Rhode Island 70-53 on Saturday night.
The Spiders opened the game on a 15-5 run and never trailed the rest of the way. After trailing 33-26 at halftime, the Rams cut the deficit to 35-31 with 15:53 left. An 11-3 run pushed the lead into double digits for the remainder of the game. A layup by Josh Duinker with 1:24 remaining gave the Spiders their biggest lead, 70-58.
Francis Martel and Kendall Anthony each added 13 points for the Spiders (10-7, 1-1 Atlantic 10 Conference), who have won three of their past four.
The Spiders shot 52.8 percent (28 of 53) from the field and made 11 of 21 from 3-point range. Martel, Brothers and Anthony each made three from behind the arc.
Billy Baron scored 14 points, Mike Powell added 12 and Andre Malone had 10 for the Rams (3-13, 0-1).
