PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) - Former Providence College standout Chelsea Marandola can now call herself a pro basketball player.
She's just signed a contract to play for the Flying Foxes in Austria's pro basketball league.
"They were national champs last year," Marandola told Eyewitness Sports. "I'm excited about going because I've never really been away from home for that long. It's going to be a good change, but it's scary at the same time."
Maybe the other players in Austria's first division should be scared. Marandola holds Rhode Island's all-time high school scoring record and averaged almost 18 points a game her senior year for PC.
Marandola hopes success in Europe could pave the way for her to be only the second Providence Lady Friar ever in the WNBA.
"I think if I go over there and have a pretty good season there, then my chances will be better to come here and play," Marandola said.
