PROVIDENCE, RI - After the tragedy in Newtown, many parents are wondering how safe their kids are in school, and what precautions are being taken.
Eyewitness News spoke with Governor Lincoln Chafee who says he's confident in the mandatory training at our local schools.
"All states have to prepare for these tragedies and we are no different. You just have to have a plan and inform the administrators and the teachers about what might happen if such a horrible event ever occurred," says the Governor.
"The State Police have really been proactive, Colonel O'Donnell, in particular, have really been proactive about thinking ahead and what to do. We got to really come together and try and figure out what has gone wrong here."
Rhode island law requires every school to hold lock down drills twice a year.
