PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) - The Rhode Island Democratic Party met at the Providence Biltmore Monday evening to pick candidates it's endorsing for top races this fall.
Candidates endorsed during Monday's convention will appear first on the Sept. 14 primary ballot. Most of the candidates seeking the endorsement were scheduled to speak at the convention.
The two men vying for governor are the state's General Treasurer Frank Caprio and Attorney General Patrick Lynch.
For the First District Congressional seat -- the successor to Patrick Kennedy -- it's Providence Mayor David Cicilline, former party chairman Bill Lynch, state Rep. David Segal, and businessman Anthony Gemma. However, Segal won't be attending the convention, and Gemma's campaign said they don't expect the endorsement.
Candidates for attorney general, lieutenant governor and other offices are also seeking endorsements.
The Republicans are scheduled to convene on Wednesday.
