(CNN) - Eleven puppies are safe now and being prepared for adoption after being found in a Dumpster in the Fresno, California area.
A man brought them to a local police department, saying he heard cries coming from an alley and found them in the Dumpster.
The 4-week-old litter of nine boys and two girls are a border collie-husky mix. They are being cared for by an animal compassion team.
A team member said there is no need to abandon animals like that because people can leave unwanted pets with the SPCA.
She also said it is a reminder to spay and neuter your pets to avoid unwanted litters.
