NORTH PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) - Two Rhode Island towns have taken the first step towards regionalizing town services.
Mayors Charles Lombardi and Joseph Polisena made the announcement at a news conference on Thursday morning.
In an effort to cut back, Johnston and North Providence will begin sharing animal control operations, facilities, vehicles and even personnel.
Johnston currently does not have its own shelter paid the Providence Animal Rescue League for the use of their services. The new move is expected to save thousands.
Both mayors agree this is just the beginning of more consolidations to come possibly including fire services.
