BELLINGHAM, Mass. (WPRI) -- One woman has been killed and another person seriously hurt following a wreck in Bellingham.
Emergency crews from Bellingham and Woonsocket were called to the scene on Paine Street at about 1:30 a.m. Sunday.
A woman and a man were trapped inside an SUV which had rolled over into a tree in front of the New England Country Club. They were eventually cut free by the Jaws of Life.
The driver of the SUV, 30-year-old Jessie Crum of Warwick, was pronounced dead at Landmark Medical Center. The passenger, 31-year-old Joshua Champagne of Harrisville, is in serious condition at Rhode Island Hospital in Providence.
Investigating officers said the SUV was traveling north in Paine Street when it crossed the center line and left the roadway. It then crossed back across the lanes and hit the northbound shoulder, climbed an embankment, and ended up in a yard at 112 Paine St., where it struck a tree head-on.
The exact cause of the crash remains under investigation.
