BOSTON (AP/WPRI) -- Police are investigating an overnight shooting in Boston that left two men dead and a third man injured.

Authorities say the victims were shot while sitting in a BMW in the city's South End on a bridge over the Massachusetts Turnpike at about 2:30 a.m. Monday.

The person in the driver's seat and a front seat passenger were pronounced dead at the scene. A back seat passenger was taken to a hospital with injuries that police say are not life-threatening.

Police say they think two other people were in the BMW at the time of the shooting.

“There were two other individuals in the victim’s vehicle who fled the scene and have left before police arrived. We want to make sure they’re okay, and obviously we want to talk to them about what they saw and any information they have relative to this investigation,” said Superintendent Dan Linskey of the Boston Police Department.

No names were released.

Witnesses told police that occupants of a silver or gray SUV with Rhode Island plates opened fire on the victims' car, then drove off. Police are currently looking for that vehicle.
