NEW BEDFORD, Mass. (WPRI) -- Two robbery suspects were nabbed by police Friday, due in part to the bravery of an 80-year-old woman.
According to police, Eduardo Torres-Lopez, 22, and Jesse DosSantos, 24, both of 292 Coggeshall St., were arrested for attempting to rob Continental Market, located at 243 Sawyer St. in New Bedford.
When the two armed men demanded money from the store's clerk, Otilia Martins threw mangoes and a bag of apples from a display case at them.
Martins, whose daughter and son-in-law run the market, suffered a laceration to the head after she was struck in the head with a 38-caliber handgun by one of the suspects.
The two suspects are both charged with armed robbery while masked and for carrying a firearm without a license, and DosSantos was also charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon.
