Bridge damaged by 2010 floods reopens

FREETOWN, Mass. (WPRI) - More than two years after it was washed away by the historic floods of 2010, the Narrows Road Bridge in Freetown finally reopened Friday morning.

A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held to celebrate the end of the bridge replacement project.

According to the Taunton Gazette , the construction was completed more than two months ahead of schedule.

Most of the $1.1 million project was reportedly paid for by the Federal Emergency Management Agency.

The collapse of the Narrows Road Bridge on March 31, 2010 left some residents stranded in their neighborhood until a temporary bypass road was opened.

That bypass road is expected to close to traffic next week.
