FALL RIVER, Mass. (WPRI) - When looking for someone on the street to help you break the law, don't pick an off-duty police officer.
Fall River Police say Jason Aguiar was running away from a team of officers -- who were cracking down on probation violators -- was blazing through people's yards on North Main Street Wednesday, and when he ran across one man in particular, they say Aguiar begged the man to give him a ride to Boston.
The man said sure, and went to grab his keys -- or so he led Aguiar to believe.
The man, off-duty police officer Nelson Souza, had seen the man trying to elude police, and so instead got out a pair of handcuffs and took Aguiar into custody.
He's due back in court later this month on misdemeanor charges.
