FALL RIVER, Mass. (WPRI) - A New Bedford man is facing arson charges, after police say he tried to set a Fall River school on fire.

The fire broke out at the Morton Middle School on Rock Street late Tuesday night.

Eyewitnesses reportedly spotted Derek Remy, 22, trying to enter the school shortly before the fire alarm sounded.

Police have not yet confirmed the extent of the damage to the school.

Remy is facing several charges, including breaking and entering and willful and malicious burning of a school.
