Update: Injured eagle making progress

NORTH KINGSTOWN, R.I. -- A bald eagle was found in a Johnston landfill earlier in this month after being shot in the head, and Monday morning, it was reported that the injured bird was beginning to recover.

A CT scan revealed the eagle had a pellet in the right side of her brain . She was also shot in the leg, tail and chest. Veterinarians who are caring for the bird in North Kingstown said she has made "tremendous" progress, but she is still unable to eat on her own.

Bald eagles are protected under the Bald and Golden Eagle Protection Act. Violators will be penalized to the tune of a $250,000 fine and up to two years in prison.
