RIPTA considers eliminating stops

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) -- The Rhode Island Public Transit Authority is considering making changes in order to speed up its bus services.

According to officials, RIPTA is considering eliminating as many as one in five bus stops throughout its entire system. This decision would reduce the number of stops by roughly 1,000.

The agency will be holding several community meetings in the immediate future in order to gain feedback from customers across the state.

The first meeting will be held Monday afternoon at the University of Rhode Island's Providence campus, followed by a second meeting in Warwick.
