JOHNSTON, R.I. (AP) - Rhode Island's governor is taking his $8.2 billion budget proposal on the road -- to pitch the proposed spending plan to residents at a town hall meeting in Johnston.

Gov. Lincoln Chafee is scheduled to discuss his proposed budget for the next fiscal year Tuesday night at the Johnston Senior Center.

The independent governor's budget proposal would reduce the state's corporate tax rate while increasing spending on schools.

The state's General Assembly is now reviewing Chafee's plan. Lawmakers typically make big changes to the budget before approving it in time for the new fiscal year that begins July 1.
