PAWTUCKET, R.I. (WPRI) - A local hero receives a pair of long overdue honors.
Private First Class Maurice Trottier was presented with both a Naval Reserve Medal and the National Defense Service Media.
He first enlisted in the Navy Reserves, then fought for the U.S. Army during the Korean War.
Later, Trottier served with the paratroopers and the the National Guard, before re-enlisting in the Navy at age 54.
"Being in the service sometimes, you get so dedicated, you know? You just want to do as much as you can," Trottier said.
Maurice Trottier first enlisted in 1938, when he was only 17 years old.
He finally retired from the military for good, in 1991.
