PAWTUCKET, R.I. (WPRI) - A Pawtucket mother who lost her son in the war in Afghanistan earlier this year has lost her home to fire.
Doris Poulin was able to get out of her house safely on Thursday and save some pictures of her son Dennis, who died in March after the MRAP vehicle he was driving in rolled over on him . He was just 26-years-old.
Since Dennis' death, Doris has been actively petitioning for her son to become a recipient of the Purple Heart.
She almost lost her son again Thursday when a grease fire started in her house. Poulin managed to save some pictures of her son when she got out of the house but his footlocker, the flag that covered his casket and more pictures had to be left behind.
The locker was not destroyed but she hasn't been able to get back inside to check the contents. Fire officials tell her the house is uninhabitable. Poulin is staying with family in the meantime.
