PAWTUCKET, R.I. (WPRI) - A deported felon arrested while trying to get a Rhode Island driver's license scarred his own fingers to hide his identity, state police said.
Robert M. Cordero-Luciano was taken into custody Wednesday at the Pawtucket branch of the Division of Motor Vehicles . State police said he was trying to get a Rhode Island driver's license, using a counterfeit Puerto Rican license.
A state trooper arrested him and brought him in for questioning. When he tried to fingerprint the suspect, the trooper found the suspect's fingerprints had been mutilated.
State Police said they were able to identify Cordero-Luciano using a photo database and facial recognition software. They also discovered he had obtained four other driver's licenses using fake names and birthdays.
Cordero-Luciano was deported to the Dominican Republic in 2006 after he was convicted of drug trafficking in Fall River, according to state police. He admitted to his true identity following additional questioning.
He is being held at the ACI pending additional charges.
