PAWTUCKET, R.I. (WPRI) – Citing a decline in mail volume and higher operating costs, the USPS has put one of its once grand post offices up for sale.
The Pawtucket Post Office on Montgomery Street is now on the market.
The historic building was built in 1900.
According to Christine Dugas of the USPS, the brick building is 21,000 square feet.
There’s no word yet on an asking price, but according to the Pawtucket tax records the property is valued at just over $1.9 million.
The USPS plans to move into a smaller location in the downtown area to service customers living or working in the area.
The post office will remain open until a buyer is found.
