NORTH KINGSTOWN, R.I. (WPRI) – The Wickford Art Festival celebrated its 50th anniversary this weekend.

The event brings together more than 200 artists who display and sell their work along the Wickford’s waterfront.

More than 30,000 people were expected to flock to Wickford Village this weekend in one the best known art festivals in the region.

The two-day event started in 1962 as a sidewalk art show.

In the spirit of commemorating the festival’s history a special exhibit was displayed at Wilson’s of Wickford with artwork from ten families who helped in the festivals creation.
