CRANSTON, R.I. (WPRI) -- The family of a pregnant woman who was killed in a car crash in East Greenwich is protesting outside of court today, as the man accused of causing the crash was slated to appear.
Friends and family of Sullynette Sanchez gathered with signs outside of the RI Traffic Tribunal in Cranston. Sanchez was killed back in October in a collision on Route 4 in East Greenwich. She was nine months pregnant at the time, and her baby, though initially saved, passed away two weeks after the accident.
Benjamin Servideo, 24, of Newport, was driving behind Sanchez when he struck her vehicle, causing her to slam into the car in front of her. It was revealed this week that there wasn't enough evidence to bring criminal charges against Servideo.
Servideo pleaded guilty to traffic violations of failure to maintain proper control and conditions requiring reduced speed. A third count of following too closely was dismissed.
Sanchez's family will be able to make statements on Sullynette's behalf when Servideo appears in court for sentencing, which is scheduled for Feb. 26.
