Bus companies reach settlement with EPA
Companies left buses idling for hours at a time

SOUTH KINGSTOWN, R.I. (WPRI) - A family of bus companies has reached a major settlement with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.
The companies were accused of violating environmental laws by leaving buses idling for hours at a time.
Ocean State transit and STA of Connecticut have agreed to pay a $35,000 fine and perform environmental projects.
The settlement comes one year after officials claimed to have witnessed buses in East Greenwich and South Kingstown, as well as at several Connecticut locations, idling for extended periods of time.
