NORTH KINGSTOWN, R.I. (WPRI) – Five members of the Rhode Island Air National Guard returned home following a nine month deployment to Southwest Asia.

Detachment 23, Operation Support Aviation Command, RING-JFHQ  arrived just before 3 p.m. at Quonset Air National Guard Base in North Kingstown on Wednesday.

During their deployment, the aviation unit used C-12 Hurons to transport personnel and cargo across Southwest Asia.

"[My] 16-year-old daughter recently started driving, so that's scary enough, more than being over there I think," said Chief Officer Gary Carter.

All five members will now be able to spend Thanksgiving with their friends and loved ones.

"My daughter came out and she jumped on me, and then my son did, it was great," said Master Sgt. Paul Guarino. "It's nice to be home, I missed them."
