WESTERLY, R.I. (WPRI) -- Police have apprehended two suspects accused of robbing a Westerly bank Tuesday morning.
Officers were called to The Washington Trust Company branch on Franklin Street just before 9 a.m. after the crime was reported. A male approached the counter and handed the teller a note demanding cash, then fled the scene with an undisclosed amount of cash. No weapon was shown.
Police tell us they were able to identify the suspect, and Nicholas J. Sacco, 22, of Westerly, was arrested a short time later.
Officers then learned of the involvement of a second suspect, Shakeyla M. Hazard, 20, of South Kingstown, who was subsequently taken into custody.
Both suspects were charged with second-degree robbery and conspiracy.
We're told the investigation is ongoing, and that evidence related to the robbery, including cash, has been seized. Police don't expect to make any further arrests.
