WARWICK, R.I. (AP) -- A Rhode Island man who was killed in action during World War II has been posthumously awarded several service medals.

Democratic U.S. Rep. Jim Langevin (LAN'-jih-vin) presented six medals earned by Cpl. Frank Aldrich to Aldrich's 73-year-old son, Frank. The elder Aldrich, a native of Central Falls, was killed during the Battle of the Bulge in 1944 and is buried in Westerly.

Langevin's office says the long overdue medals include the Purple Heart and the Victory Medal, along with campaign medals.

Frank Aldrich, who also served in the U.S. Army from 1957 to 1960, called it a proud moment and said the medals brought some closure to his father's "incredible life."

The medal presentation took place Monday at Langevin's office in Warwick.
