WARWICK, R.I. (WPRI) -- Police in Warwick took part in a national seatbelt campaign over the holiday weekend, and they tell us it was a success.
The "Click It or Ticket" campaign ran from Nov. 18 to 25, and during that time Warwick officers handed out 164 seatbelt and child seat violations.
Police ticketed drivers for failing to wear their seatbelts both day and night.
In addition to the seatbelt violations, police also arrested 12 motorists for operating on a suspended license and eight for driving under the influence in the city.
The Warwick Police Department would like to remind drivers that injuries and deaths can be prevented by simply wearing a seatbelt.
