RI homeless shelter fails inspection
Advocates want shelter moved from Harrington Hall

CRANSTON, R.I. (AP) -- Advocates for the homeless are asking the state to move Rhode Island's largest overnight shelter for men from Cranston's Harrington Hall, which failed a recent state inspection.
Officials say the building, which has 88 beds and just two bathrooms, was found to have numerous violations. Those include a leaky roof, holes in the showers, electrical shortages and peeling paint.
Jim Ryczek, executive director of the Rhode Island Coalition for the Homeless, tells The Providence Journal it wants the shelter moved to the nearby Gloria McDonald Facility, an empty women's prison.
The Warwick-based House of Hope Community Development Corporation, which runs the shelter, supports the move.
Christine Hunsinger, a spokeswoman for Governor Chafee, says the governor is "evaluating the situation."
