WARWICK, R.I. (WPRI) - The country's first recovery community center located at a YMCA facility opened today in Warwick.
The Providence Center and the Greater Providence YMCA have partnered up to help people in recovery, their families, and supporters.
They will now be able to take advantage of recovery groups, one-on-one coaching, and special events at the Kent County YMCA.
"Providing physical activity and exercise and those kinds of programs will help them with their recovery and ultimately this will help save lives, because individuals with addictions generally have a much shorter life span than the general population. So if we can people physically active supported and engaged we think we can help people, not only with their recovery process, but their overall health and well being," said Jim Berson, President & CEO of the YMCA of Greater Providence
The Providence Center provides behavioral health care for more than 12,000 people each year.
