CRANSTON, R.I. (WPRI) - A company in Cranston will soon be closing its doors, according to the State Department of Labor and Training.
The John Crane Seal company will reportedly be closing its plant on Sharpe Drive.
The company issued a statement to Eyewitness News which reads in part, "As first announced in August last year, John Crane is scheduled to close its Cranston, RI plant and consolidate its operations at other John Crane North America sites as part of its global manufacturing strategy.
"This move, though regrettable, is crucial if John Crane is to maintain competitiveness and protect its long‐term future in the global marketplace."
According to a notification filed with the DLT, the closure means about 70 employees will be laid off.
The company manufacturers seals and other products for different industries including oil, gas, and chemicals.
The closure is expected in June 2012.
