CRANSTON, R.I. (WPRI) - Cranston Police are investigating an armed robbery at the Bestway Food Mart on Park Avenue.

The store clerk told investigators that two men rushed into the store just before 10 p.m. on Sunday. One suspect pulled a shotgun from a backpack he was carrying and demanded all of the money.

The clerk says he tried to fight the suspects and he was punched several times during the struggle.

One of the suspects went behind the register and tried to open it but was unsuccessful. The suspect took several packs of Newport cigarettes, then left.

The clerk chased the other suspect outside where another struggle took place. The clerk was cut under his eye, but refused medical treatment.

The suspects are described as black males between the ages of 18 and 20 wearing all dark clothing and black ski masks. They were last seen running toward the dumpster behind the building.

Anyone with any information about this robbery is asked to call the Cranston Police Criminal Investigation Unit at 401-477-5140.
