CRANSTON, R.I. (WPRI) -- A Lieutenant and two correctional officers were attacked Tuesday morning by an inmate at the Intake Service Center in Cranston.
According to the RI Brotherhood of Correctional Officers, the officers were getting the inmate processed to go to court when they were viciously assaulted. They were treated for several injuries, including being bitten, following the incident.
The inmate in question was reportedly threatening staff over the weekend while being held without bail on pending charges.
The center has been forced to lock down, marking the second time in ten days it's been locked down due to violence.
The officers' union also tells us that 57 inmates slept on the floor Monday night due to a lack of available beds.
Eyewitness News reached out to the ACI for comment Tuesday but have yet to hear back.
