Vets honored at wreath laying ceremony
One veteran shares his story as a cook in WWII

BRISTOL, R.I (WPRI) – State and local dignitaries came out on Sunday in Bristol for a wreath laying ceremony to honor veterans and current service members.
One navy veteran who attended the ceremony served as a cook aboard a ship in WWII.
Ninety year old Al Benharris from Providence lives at the Rhode Island Veterans home.
Benharris tells Eyewitness News he was just 20 years old as a cook on a WWII ship. He was the only cook onboard and had to cook three meals a day for 27 men.
He says he remembers it like it was yesterday, and he never thought twice about serving his country.
Benharris says he spends much of his time writing commentaries for veteran newspapers.
