RI woman found dead after silver alert

NEWPORT, R.I. (WPRI) - UPDATE: Newport Police have canceled a Silver Alert for a missing elderly woman with dementia.

The body of Brenda Batts, 68, of Newport, was discovered near the Vanzandt Avenue bridge, officials said in a news release Thursday afternoon.

The cause of death is unknown but police say they do not suspect foul play.

A Silver Alert was issued earlier in the day after according to police, she was last seen in the main bus terminal in Newport around 6 p.m. Wednesday.
